History of the Centre
The Hurstville Aquatic Leisure was first opened to the public on Saturday, 2nd December 1995 with an official opening on Saturday, 9th by the then Mayor Peter Olah JP. The all-weather centre boasted an eight-lane 25m lap pool, leisure pool, large outdoor tropical garden area, a café, fitness studio, spa and sauna area, aerobics and creche facilities.
The Centre has been one of the most successful facilities provided by the Council for the community. By 2000, there were over 10,000 visitors attending the Centre each week. Following surveys and community consultation about the leisure requirements of the community, the $9.28m expansion of the Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre commenced.
The refurbishment of the Centre was completed in February 2004. Today the Centre has a greatly expanded aerobics/function area, new gymnasium, program and toddlers’ pools, as well as a multipurpose sports hall.
